Jahazeil Myrie, son of Buju Banton, is endorsing Government’s decision to re-employ retired teachers to fill the shortfall left by their migrating colleagues.

The new academic school year, 2022 – 2023, opens with full resumption of classes this Monday, September 5 and there are concerns that several critical subject areas may be left without teachers.

“The new school year should not be plagued by problems which could be avoided. These students in their final lap for their CSEC [Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate] and CAPE [Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination] examinations next year need teachers more than ever before. To have them sitting exams without teachers could be very frustrating. Then, there are those students who are entering a new environment and the great expectations they have entering high school for the very first time. We cannot allow them to feel disappointed. This could affect the drive they have from primary school. We must, therefore, fix this and other problem before Monday, September 5, when schools reopens,” Myrie told the Jamaica Observer.

Concerns began to surface following the recent announcement by Education and Youth Minister Fayval Williams that as of June 2022, some 167 teachers have resigned.

Meanwhile, Myrie is looking forward to releasing his debut EP album Message.

“This should be out before the end of September 2022 under the Jah Jah production imprint. I am so excited because this is another step in Jahazeil’s music career,” he said.

The EP has four tracks: Introduction; Suicide and Journey speaks of the artiste’s tribulations, and the motivational Born Star.

Myrie, born in Kingston, released his first song No More, produced by sibling Markus on Markus Records label in 2015.

His other songs include Best of Me (2019), Fight Against (2019), Keep Strong (2020), and At My Door ft Spragga Benz (2020).
