Jahshii shares God’s Plan
Dancehall artiste Jahshii and producer Troublemekka have teamed up for the song God’s Plan, which was released on April 6.
“From the start, the creation of the song was a different energy; the vibe and the lyrics. You can feel the powers in the song, but the title really has a lot to do with it,” Jahshii disclosed in an interview with the Jamaica Observer on Thursday.
God’s Plan is the Born Fighter hitmaker’s first solo release since the start of the year.
He recently topped the charts on the collaborative single Pieces which features Masicka.
The song, as the name suggests, is all about following a divine path and speaks to Jahshii’s own recent decision to step back from the scene a bit and “lock in” and do some introspection.
It was producer Dominic “Troublemekka” McDonald who initially brought the idea for the song to Jahshii.
“When I got the call to link up with him [Jahshii], I purposefully sat down and came up with this idea,” Troublemekka stated.
He continued, “I knew it was gonna be something special for him. I knew it would connect on a different level. When I played it for him, after the first 10 seconds he said, ‘This is it,’ and he worked on it right away.”
The song also holds somewhat of a personal sentiment to Troublemekka himself as he navigates his own trials.
Troublemekka has enjoyed some success with Double Trouble, a rhythm which features songs such as Clear the Way by Jahvillani, Larger Than Life by Rygin King, Eiffel (Chronic Law), Guide The Way (Chan Dizzy), Party an Mek Money (Chi Ching Ching), and Careless Sex by Shane E.
Troublemekka initially wanted to become a professional footballer. That changed when he was introduced to music production in 2012 by producer Tarik “Rvssian” Johnston.
“I started messing around on the turntables in high school, and then later on I linked with Rvssian and I began to go to his studio. That’s how I got drawn into the whole production thing,” he disclosed.
McDonald attended Hillel Academy and Full Sail University in Florida, where he earned a degree in recording arts.
“I started building rhythms over Skype and I worked on a production [called] Ever Blessed by Vybz Kartel. When I came home for holidays I realised that I had this big song on the radio and that was what basically set the tone for everything,” said McDonald, who racked up co-production credits on songs like Kartel’s Special Delivery, Wine and Boom by Beenie Man, I Like by Sean Paul, and Legal by Konshens.
In 2017, he opened the Double Trouble Music Studio and has worked with a number of up-and-coming acts.
“One of the most important things to do is to build with an artiste. If you don’t have a new talent that is going to be the next big thing, then you’re going to miss out on the opportunity. One of the biggest things as a producer for me is to develop artistes,” said McDonald. “What I like most about music production is being able to create something from nothing. It’s like I’m creating a new product each day.”
