The Spring Into Fashion showcase on Sunday, April 30, at the Rocksteady Ballroom of the AC Hotel Kingston will feature vocalist Keith Campbell.

Hosted by the Canadian Women’s Club in Jamaica, proceeds from the event provides much-needed assistance to a variety of institutions and charities.

The crooner hails from Toll Gate, Clarendon, and, like many in the industry, has had to overcome the odds.

Starting out with brothers Christopher and Dudley, and boosted by their encouragement, he started hanging out at the Clarendon-based sound Cosmic Force, where he would from time to time get a chance to show his talent.

He braved the odds and journeyed to Kingston, enduring rough times on the way to his early breaks.

Through legendary sound system operator and producer Jack Scorpio he got a spot in a local talent competition and, having won, has since grown from strength to strength.

Campbell has performed as vocalist with the likes of Fab 5 and other local bands and was a crowd-pleaser at the popular weekly Kingston Night Market event.

“It is my honour to perform for such a worthy cause — that of the upliftment of underserved communities — and, at the same time, showcase my talent to Jamaicans from all walks of life,” indicated Campbell.

Among his recordings on the KleanLife Label are I want You for Myself, Just Memories, and Suspicion.

Also set to enliven the proceedings is dub poet and radio talk show host Mutabaruka, who will be donning his ‘other hat’ — that of selector and musical taste maker, something he has, in fact, been doing for many years.

The fashion and entertainment extravaganza is headlined by International supermodel Bath-Sheba McMahon, the grand-daughter of iconic Jamaican artist and cultural figure Mallica “Kapo” Reynolds, who will lead an array of celebrity models, wearing the creations of overseas-based and Jamaican designers.
