Nickoy Levy’s the Real Deal
With the dancehall scene being a competitive arena, Nickoy Levy says being original is his strategy for hitting the big time. The singjay projects that “different” sound on Real Deal, his latest song.
Produced by Star Level Records, the single was released in early August.
“Just being myself, people can identify with me or any artiste. Once you have a uniqueness yuh get instantly recognised,” said Levy.
Real Deal, which was inspired by a personal experience, hears the St Elizabeth-born artiste vowing to give a potential lover the niceties she lacked in her previous relationship.
“It’s really me telling her I’m prepared to give her everything I got,” said Levy, who is from Warminister district in south St Elizabeth.
That region has produced a number of well-known acts such as Laden, Terry Linen, Yasus Afari, and Cornel Campbell.
His biggest influences, however, are from beyond the farm belt parish. They include “anyone who mek good music”, such as Vybz Kartel, Beenie Man, Bounty Killer, Mavado, Sizzla, and Capleton.
A graduate of St Elizabeth Technical High School, Levy began recording in 2018, making his debut with Well Fresh, a song produced by JKeez Records. Since then, he has recorded songs like Missing You A Lot for Stampede Records.
