KINGSTON, Jamaica — American Aidan Mayo won the ATP Kingston 2 Challenge Lawn Tennis tournament, beating Andy Andrade of Ecuador 6-3, 7-6 in the final at the Liguanea Club on Saturday.

The 23-year-old turned back the number two seed in just over two hours on Centre Court and walked away with the US$17,000 first prize money and 75 valuable ranking points.

Andrade, as the runner-up, will collect US$9,600, while beaten semi-finalists Guto Miguel of Brazil and Rodrigo Mendez of Mexico walked away with US$5,510 each.

In the curtain-raiser, the French pair of Arthur Reymond and Luca Sanchez won the Doubles tournament, beating Alexander Donski of Bulgaria and Dan Martin of Canada 6-2, 6-4.

Both Reymond and Sanchez will share the winning prize of US$4,980 and the runner-up will pocket US$2,880.

It was two weeks of exhilarating tennis in Jamaica that saw a number of international budding stars converge on the island seeking to improve their world rankings.

It was a historic moment for Jamaica and an important stepping stone as Tennis Jamaica tried to grow and develop the sport in the country.
