Pon Di Endz street dance looks at expansion
Six years after it was first held, the promoters of Pon Di Endz street dance, are in expansion mode.
The promoters of the event which is held once per month in Miramar, Florida, are looking at taking the event to other cities in the US as well as in the Caribbean and Jamaica.
Yannick “‘Teflon” Brown, who is originally from Spanish Town, is one of the principals behind the staging of the event. He joined forces with Iron Heart Sound, 3 Kings, Ovaahdrive and Forbidden Entertainment to promote the event.
“The idea behind starting Pon Di Endz street dance is really to bring the authentic street dance vibes to the United States. We had our first event in January of 2017 in Miami Gardens with 300 patrons and now its averaging around 1,500 to 2,000 patrons at each staging,” he said.
Said Brown, “We plan to take the event to cities such as Atlanta, New York, Chicago, and also internationally to countries like Canada, Cayman Islands, and Jamaica. Just like all other major events we as a team feel that Pon Di Endz has brought a lot to the city of Miami and after six years it’s time for us to bring this experience to other states and countries.”
He shared what makes the event a unique one.
“It’s the only authentic Jamaican street dance in Miami that is helping to keep the Jamaican culture, dancehall culture alive. We have had several sounds and selectors playing at the event including Foota Hype, Jazzy T, Code Red, Illusion, Dutty Dex, Ironheart Sound, 3 Kings, Area Code, Coppershot, DJ Reem, Innocent and Eccentrix,” Brown disclosed.
The next staging of the event is scheduled for Saturday, March 18 at Flamingo Road in Miramar, and the first live act will be singer D’Yani, who has been making waves with songs including Birthday and Feelings featuring Jada Kingdom.
“This the first time we will be having someone perform. But we have had celebrities there in attendance such as Safaree, Christopher Martin, Bugle, Konshens, Kemar Highcon, Tifa, Lincoln 3dot, Facebook Hero, and Trabass just to name a few,” said Brown.
Asked about the decision to include a live act into the proceedings, Brown said: “This staging will be special because D’Yani will be the first artiste to be booked to perform at Pon Di Endz street dance. It will also be his first time appearing on stage in South Florida. Plus, he’s a fast-rising star and his songs get a great reaction when played a lot at the parties.”
