The English Beat almost dethrones Bob on Billboard
Record Store Day on November 24 has seen two titles make their way on the sales- and streaming-driven Billboard Reggae Albums chart.
A re-released expanded version of British 2tone/ska band The English Beat’s 1980 album I Just Can’t Stop, debuts at #2 on the chart, posing a threat to Bob Marley and the Wailers’ long-running Legend, which spends 203 weeks on top.
Lee Scratch Perry’s EP titled Scratch’d with Rolling Stones member Keith Richards enters at #6. This is the 19th entry by Perry. He peaked at #1 in 2019 with Heavy Rain.
The English Beat earns its second entry on the reggae table. Bounce stalled at #8 in 2016.
Meanwhile, Best of Shaggy: The Boombastic Collection by Shaggy falls to #3, Dutty Classics Collection and Dutty Rock by Sean Paul are #4 and #5, respectively.
Set in Stone by Stick Figure is down to #7, while UB40’s Greatest Hits dips to #8.
Stick Figure occupies #9 and #10 with World on Fire and Wisdom, respectively.
Over on the R&B charts, Teejay’s Drift continues to make moves. On R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay, Drift cruises from #43 to #41, while over on Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay, it steps up from #35 to #29.
The song remains steady at #30 on Rhythmic Top 40.
In Germany, Shenseea makes gains with Beama, featuring Lola Brooke, moving up from #40 to #37 on the German Urban Top 40 chart.
On regional reggae charts, Look a Girl by Stephen and Chino McGregor remains at #1 for a second week on the South Florida reggae chart.
Over on the New York Reggae chart, I shall be, released by Hezron featuring veteran deejay Big Youth, takes over the #1 spot.
