For the first time since its debut staging in 2017, Xodus Carnival has now introduced costumes for its male masqueraders.

Pierre Goubault, CEO of Xodus Carnival, made the disclosure in an interview with the Jamaica Observer on Monday night at a runway fete and costume showcase on the grounds of 36 Hope Road in Kingston.

“We chose to launch male costumes based on our overall new design direction and our willingness to satisfy all masqueraders. This has been a request we have been considering for years not just from our male consumers, but also females who want their companion to match their costume selection,” Goubault told the Jamaica Observer.

The two male costume sections were designed by the Xodus in-house design team, called Mas Create.

At the runway fete show, the premium carnival band debuted its 2024 Mas Couture-themed costumes. Patrons reacted in appreciation to the colourful and eye-catching pieces, which consisted of feathers, beads and strings.

Said Gobault, “Our aim is to design, produce, and deliver beautiful and elaborate costumes that will enthral new and existing customers. With this year’s theme, we are marrying two intrinsic elements of carnival that define our celebration, the vibrant spirit of our people, ‘mas’ and captivating world of fashion and how it translates to carnival, ‘couture’. ‘Mas Couture’ is not just a theme, it’s a celebration of diversity, creativity, growth, and evolution.”

Campari, a major partner for Xodus Carnival, promises to up the energy in creating lasting carnival experiences for revellers.

“Big brands for big things. So you know Campari had to be a part of the launch of this carnival experience. We’re looking forward to 2024, its going to be spectacular. As you know, Campari is the king of carnival,” said Pavel Smith, marketing manager, J Wray & Nephew Limited.

He added, “Campari will continue to be that brand that supports carnival in Jamaica. We also understand what it does for the economy, and we support dancehall as well. Overall, we are supporting the development of entertainment in Jamaica, so it’s a perfect fit for us to partner with Xodus, to deliver this carnival experience in Jamaica.”

Said Goubault, “I think that this is the best presentation that Xodus has ever done. I’m elated, I’m excited and the costumes are wonderful, the ladies are just absolutely beautiful. You can expect the most exciting carnival ever.”

Seventy-five per cent of the costumes were designed locally.
