It may have been a nine-furlong and 25-yard (1,820m) journey, but Lure of Lucy led every step of the way to win the $1.14-million Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment Limited Fan Appreciation Day trophy feature race at Caymanas Park on Monday.

The five-year-old American-bred bay mare, who was never challenged throughout the race, won the Non-Restricted Overnight Allowance contest by a dominating 3 ½ lengths in a smooth time of 1:56.0.

Trained by champion conditioner Jason DaCosta, Lure of Lucy (Uncle Lino – Ring of Faith) was sent to the front by jockey Omar Walker and held the lead ahead of Big Big Daddy (Dane Dawkins), Positive ID (Reyan Lewis), and D Head Cornerstone (Andre’ Martin) going into the clubhouse turn and onto the main track.

Lure of Lucy continued to maintain a steady gallop down the backstretch until navigating the half-mile (800m) when the far-striding mare upped the tempo on rivals and extended the lead approaching the distance.

Turning for home, Positive ID tried to challenge Lure of Lucy, but the latter changed gears in deep stretch and went on her merry way to register her sixth career win from 21 starts. Finishing in third place was stablemate Hover Craft, ridden by Robert Halledeen, as the splits recorded were 27.2 x 53.0 x 1:17.2 x 1:41.4.

Meanwhile, former three-time champion trainer Anthony Nunes and jockey Tevin Foster combined to win two races on the nine-race programme.

The pair won the third race, a non-restricted maiden condition for native-bred three-year-olds over five furlongs (1,00m) on the round course, with three-year-old bay filly Volatility who got home by a length and three quarters ahead of Whizz Kidd (Robert Halledeen) and Smooth Aviator (Reyan Lewis) in a time of 1:01.2.

Nunes and Foster then closed the card with four-year-old dark bay gelding G T Boy, who romped home in the 2023 New Year’s Day Trophy, a restricted Allowance V contest for native-bred four-year-olds and upward (non-winners of two) and imported four-year-olds and upward (maidens) over six-and-a half furlongs (1,300m). G T Boy won in 1:21.1 by a length and three quarters.

Also with two winners was trainer Errol Burke, who saddled Little Grovy Thing (Javaniel Patterson) in the fourh race and Schlesinger (Reyan Lewis) in the $1-million Mckay Security Sprint Trophy.

Stallwalkin’girl, owned and trained by Anthony Subratie and ridden by Shane Richardson, won the $1-million McKay Security Trophy over nine furlongs and 25 yards. The eight-year-old bay mare won the four-year-old and upward Claiming ($250,000-$200,000) spread by 2 ¼ lengths in a time of 2:03.2.
