Mouttet Mile purse moves from $US150,000 to US$250,000
The 2023 Mouttet Mile (Invitational) was an undeniable success.
That is the view of Gary Peart, executive chairman of Supreme Ventures Group Limited, who also promised that next year’s event will be even bigger and better.
The Mouttet Mile (invitational), a Grade One event for three-year-olds and upward going over a mile (1,600m), carried a purse of US$150,000 (J$22,500,000) and the remaining races on the programme had purses of $1 million and over, which made the race day the richest in the English-speaking Caribbean.
Peart in a post-race interview then revealed that the purse for 2024 Mouttet Mile will be raised by US$100,000, to US$250,000.
“This year’s Mouttet Mile event was amazing, it was excellent, and was off-the-chain. I don’t have enough words to explain how it was,” Peart told the Jamaica Observer‘s The Supreme Racing Guide.
“The Mouttet family has said that they want the race to be one of the biggest races in the world and so, therefore, it needs to have a purse that attracts the world. They have indicated that they would be raising the total purse for the 2024 Mouttet Mile from its current US$150,000 to US$250,000.
“That as anyone can see is a huge investment in our horse racing product, and a statement of the progress we have been making over the last three or so years,” Peart added.
Peart said that without a doubt this investment will get more attraction for horse racing in Jamaica.
“I think we only got four horses this year but come next year we will get at least eight. I think you are going to get double the amount of foreign jockeys. Caymanas Park is the place to be in horse racing,” Peart said.
