Aberdeen High School participates in national tree planting initiative
ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica – The Integrity Ambassador’s Club in collaboration with the science and agricultural science department at the Aberdeen High School in St Elizabeth, participated in a national tree planting initiative on Monday, October 10.
The National Tree Planting Initiative was launched by Prime Minister, Andrew Holness, in October 2019.
The aim of the initiative is to undertake the planting of three million ornamental and timber trees in three years.
As of September 1, this year, 1,439,042 trees have been planted and distributed island-wide, according to the Forest Department.
As such, members of the Aberdeen High School started with the serving of breakfast, followed by devotion, which highlighted the importance of trees in the environment.
Devotion was followed by the culmination of the school’s tree planting ceremony, where each year group along with the respective coordinators, form teachers and students planted a tree.
Afterwards, club advisors, Sashane Stone-Goldbourne, Richards Simpson, Maria Morgan, Crystal Moriah and Kendrea Frekleton, along with club members, planted a poor man orchid tree.
