Barracks Road and Howard Cooke seek U-13 semis
ST JAMES, Jamaica – Former champions Barracks Road Primary and Howard Cooke Primary will hope to book their places in the semi-finals of the St James Football Association Victoria Mutual Foundation Uplift Under-13 competition on Tuesday when the quarter-finals get underway at Wespow Park with a doubleheader.
Eight schools, two from each of the four first-round groups qualified for the second round, which will be played on a knock-out basis and the four winners will qualify for the June 6th semi-finals, also at Wespow Park.
Barracks Road Primary, who topped Zone C with five wins, faces Montego Bay Prep, runners-up in Zone A in the second game set to start at 11:30 am.
In the first game, Zone A winners Howard Cooke Primary will take on Zone C runners-up Green Pond Primary.
Two more games will be played on Wednesday, Corinaldi Avenue Primary takes on Catherine Hall Primary and Flankers will meet John Rollins Success.
On Tuesday, Barracks Road Primary will put their perfect win record on the line when they face a Montego Bay Prep team that came up just short of winning their zone, while scoring 12 goals, third best in the competition.
Barracks Road have, however, put together one of the best records in the competition this season, scoring 19 goals and conceding just two and will hope to get to the final.
The first game will be between two of the best defensive teams in the competition with both teams combining to concede just once in 10 games.
Howard Cooke is the only team yet to concede a goal and Green Pond will have their work cut out after only scoring seven times in their five games but have let in just one goal.
If the scores are tied after regulation 70 minutes, extra time and penalties will be used as the tiebreakers, if needed.
