Capleton excited about becoming a grandfather
Just call him Grandpa Prophet. The ‘Fireman’ Capleton is set to welcome his first grandchild into this world soon, and he’s warming up to his role as the patriarch of the Bailey clan.
When he’s not performing at sold-out concerts all over the world, the dancehall icon is a bonafide family man. On Sunday, he was in New York to attend a baby shower that heralded the impending arrival of his grand-daughter.
“It was a great joy, a momentous occasion,” Capleton told Observer Online.
“This is my first grandchild and it’s a girl. There was a gender reveal in August. I am excited about becoming a grandfather.”
Capleton’s first grand-child is the result of a union between his 30 year-old son Jah King and girlfriend Asha, who is in the last trimester of her pregnancy.
Asked how a 56 year-old internationally known dancehall superstar could have taken relatively long to become a grandfather, he laughed and replied:
“My children put education first, but the time is right now.”
Capleton returns to the island Tuesday
All hail the ‘Grand Ole Man’ of St Mary.
