Cavalier FC take lead in JPL

KINGSTON, Jamaica- Former champions Cavalier FC have taken over the lead in the Jamaica Premier League, at least for 24 hours, after beating Portmore United 2-1 in their first round game played at Stadium East on Sunday.

Cavalier’s third straight win took them to 22 points from 10 games, two more than Mt Pleasant FA who plays on Monday night.

Ronaldo Webster gave Cavalier the lead when he scored on the stroke of half time.

Emelio Rousseau equalised in the 51st minute for Portmore United but Collin Anderson’s 66th minute goal gave Cavalier FC all three points.

Meanwhile, Ricardo Thomas scored a double to lead Dunbeholden FC to back-to-back wins, beating Arnett Gardens 4-2 and up to sixth in the points tables on 15 points, same as Portmore United and Montego Bay United, all from 10 games.

Thomas scored the opening goal when he converted from the penalty spot in the 25th minute but Earl Simpson equalised for Arnett Gardens in the 37th minute as the teams were locked at 1-1 at half time.

Chavoy Watkin restored Dunbeholden’s lead in the 56th minute and Thomas completed his brace in the 59th minute as Dunbeholden raced to a 3-1 lead. Fabian Reid cut the deficit to 3-2 in the 60th minute but Shakeen Powell scored in the 74th minute for Dunbeholden.

Humble Lion are in fourth place after blanking Chapleton Maroons 3-0 at the Wembley Centre of Excellence and snapping a two-game winless run with goals from Dasha Satchwell, Raylan Paisely and Levaughn Williams.

And Montego Bay United snapped a five-game winless run, edging Faulkland FC 1-0 in the first St James derby in 17 years, with Allan Ottey scoring a 77th minute penalty after he was fouled.

In the other game played Sunday, defending champions Harbour View and Molynes United drew 0-0.
