Seiveright honours late beauty queen Latoya Malcolm with scholarships for two students
KINGSTON, Jamaica—Member of Parliament for St Andrew North Central and State Minister Delano Seiveright has sponsored scholarships valued at $100,000 each for two high school students in memory of the late Latoya Malcolm, a former Miss Universe Jamaica contestant and 2024 Miss Bikini Jamaica International winner, who died suddenly in July at age 35.
Malcolm’s mother, Nadine Newby and her brother, Giovanni Malcolm, identified and selected the recipients, who are Grade 10 students attending Excelsior High School and Wolmer’s High School.
The Latoya Malcolm Scholarship for Resilience supports the students’ educational development while encouraging perseverance and academic excellence despite life’s challenges.
Seiveright announced the scholarships during Malcolm’s emotional funeral in August.
Malcolm was remembered for her kindness, warmth, ambition and generous spirit. Her sudden passing also attracted international media attention, including coverage by US entertainment outlet TMZ.
The scholarships recognise Malcolm’s determination and resilience, qualities she demonstrated while pursuing her ambitions despite personal challenges.
