Capleton, Tarrus Riley to headline Thanksgiving weekend concert in New Jersey
KINGSTON, Jamaica—Jamaican reggae and dancehall heavyweights Capleton and Tarrus Riley are set to bring their musical talents to the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) in Newark, United States, for a special Thanksgiving weekend concert on Friday, November 27.
The highly anticipated event, part of the RoadBlock Radio Concert Series, will see the two celebrated entertainers share the stage for an evening of reggae and dancehall, bringing together their distinctive musical styles and extensive catalogues of hits.
Presented by RoadblockRadio.com, RoadBlock Radio 101.1FM HD3 and CCB INT’L, the concert is scheduled to begin at 8:00 pm, with doors opening at 7:00 pm.
Known to fans as “The Fireman”, Capleton is expected to deliver his trademark high-energy performance, drawing on a career spanning several decades. The veteran entertainer, also known as King Shango and The Prophet, has established himself as one of dancehall’s most recognisable voices, with music often centred on Rastafarian spirituality, social consciousness and cultural upliftment.
His international breakthrough came through songs such as Tour, while his albums Prophecy and I-Testament, released through Def Jam, helped introduce his music to wider audiences through collaborations with hip-hop stars including Method Man and Q-Tip.
Sharing the spotlight will be Tarrus Riley, affectionately called “Mr Singy Singy”, whose soulful vocals and catalogue of reggae favourites have earned him a loyal international following.
The son of late reggae singer Jimmy Riley, the Bronx-born, Jamaica-raised entertainer rose to international prominence with his critically acclaimed album Parables, which featured the timeless hit She’s Royal.
Riley has since continued to build on that success with projects including Contagious, Love Situation and Healing, showcasing his versatility through songs exploring love, relationships, cultural identity and social issues.
The pairing of Capleton’s fiery stage presence with Riley’s smooth, melodic delivery is expected to offer reggae enthusiasts a memorable musical experience during one of the busiest holiday weekends in the United States.
Organisers are positioning the event as a celebration of Jamaican music and culture, bringing two established figures from different musical styles together on one stage in downtown Newark.
Tickets for the concert went on sale to the general public on October 9, following exclusive presale opportunities for RoadBlock Radio listeners, NJPAC members and NJPAC eClub subscribers.
Limited tickets are available starting at US$65 through the NJPAC Box Office and Ticketmaster.
The concert will be held at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, located at 1 Center Street in Newark, New Jersey.
