Man detained; firearm, ammo seized in Standpipe, St Andrew
KINGSTON, Jamaica—An illegal firearm and several rounds of assorted ammunition were seized during a police operation in the Standpipe community on Old Hope Road in St Andrew on Wednesday.
A man was taken into custody in connection with the seizures, the police said.
The seized items, the police revealed, included a Sig Sauer 9mm pistol, a magazine containing six 9mm cartridges and 15 12-gauge cartridges.
Reports are that around 6:45 am, the police conducted an operation in response to the upsurge of crime and violence within the community in recent times.
Upon arriving in the area, lawmen saw a man discard the weapon and attempt to elude the police. He and the weapon were taken into custody, and the premises were searched.
The search resulted in the recovery of the 12-gauge cartridges, which were found inside a storage area.
Police said preliminary intelligence indicated that the prohibited weapon and ammunition were part of the arsenal of the Front Page/Cedar Valley Road Gang, which operates from sections of the Standpipe community.
It is the second prohibited weapon seized from the gang’s arsenal since the start of October 2026. The first seizure, a Bryco53 9mm pistol, was on Monday, October 5, 2026, at Cedar Valley Road in Standpipe.
The police said Standpipe has been experiencing heightened tensions following the murder of Damian ‘Whoppa’ Milne, who was shot dead on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, on Little Lane in the community.
