De Royce tops Tempo’s Cross Caribbean Countdown
‘NRG’, a summer dance anthem by singer and rapper De Royce and Alex of TOK, recently topped Tempo’s Cross Caribbean Countdown.
De Royce, whose mother is Puerto Rican and father Jamaican, described the feat as a “great honour”.
“Honestly, it’s a great honor and achievement to know that our music video has reached number one on Tempo such a big platform like this across the Caribbean. This is definitely a first and not the last. I’m grateful and this just makes me want to go harder,” said the Queens, New York-born artiste.
De Royce shared how the collaboration with TOK member Alex came about.
“Shout out to my manager Mark Pinnock for actually setting the collaboration since he is well respected in the music business. Alex from TOK rated my music and he came to a decision to collaborate with me and the rest is history,” said De Royce.
“Alex and I wanted to create something positive, colorful and full of life, to get people from all generations to be captured by the up-tempo beat and catchy lyrics. To make you wanna sing and dance,” he added.
De Royce recently signed with Natural Bridge’s Pinnock, a veteran music industry executive best known for the Rice and Peas rhythm which featured hits including ‘Mystery’ by Bounty Killer, ‘Dedicated’ by Assassin and Sugar Slick, and ‘Goodas’ by Tony Matterhorn.
He has worked with Jamaican artistes including Tanto Metro and Devonte.
“I have worked with Jamaican artistes before and there’s more to come. I bring different flavours from R&B mixed with hip-hop, urban Latin, to dance, Caribbean vibes to house music. I am an artiste and not just a singer or rapper,” he said.
De Royce (given name Kchristian Aspinall) says he has visited Jamaica on five occasions. He is currently promoting the songs ‘Dale’ and ‘Hot Girl’ which features Tanto Metro and Devonte.
