Dunbeholden stays in JPL play-off race

Dunbeholden FC stayed in the race for a play-off spot in the Jamaica Premier League after trouncing relegation bound Chapleton Maroons 7-1 in their penultimate regular season game played at Jamaica College on Sunday.

Stephen Williams and Rohan Brown scored two goals each as Dunbeholden improved to 38 points, putting themselves in the race for a place in the top six after next weekend’s games.

Four teams have already secured their places in the play-offs; leaders Arnett Gardens-49 points, Cavalier FC and Mt Pleasant-46 points and defending champions Harbour View-43 points.

Despite finishing the game with 10 men after Nickoy Christian was sent off in the 80th minute, Dunbeholden, last season’s losing finalists were in cruise control and led 2-1 at half-time.

Chevoy Watkin opened the scoring in the fifth minute but Mark Lewis pulled one back to level the scores in the 13th minute before Williams scored the first of his double in the 34th minute.

Brown made it 3-1 in the 49th minute, Carlington Blackwood scored in the 62nd minute and Brian Burkett added a fifth in the 66th minute while Williams and Brown both completed their braces late in the game.

Meanwhile, Portmore United and Waterhouse, both also in the race for the play-offs, played out a 1-1 draw, an own goal in the 32nd minute gave Waterhouse the lead before Alex Marshall equalised for Portmore in the 56th minute.

Trivante Stewart scored his 14th goal of the season in the 71st minute as Mt Pleasant came from a goal down to draw 1-1 with Humble Lion who took the lead in the 20th minute through Levaughn Williams.

Barrington Pryce and Diego McKenzie both scored doubles as Tivoli Gardens snapped a 12-game winless run to beat Montego Bay United 5-2 as Marlando Maxwell scored two for the losers.

In the other game, Vere United and Faulkland FC played out a 1-1 draw.
