CLARENDON, Jamaica — Former champions Glenmuir High School and last season’s beaten finalists Manning’s School only need a point to qualify for the quarter-finals of the ISSA daCosta Cup football competition as the Round of 16 round ends today with four games, all set to kick off at 3:00pm.

Glenmuir High and Manning’s School lead Group 4 with four points each after a win and draw in their previous games and both are on identical statistics, scoring two goals and are yet to concede.

Glenmuir High will face fellow Clarendon school Edwin Allen High at Foga Road and Manning’s School take on St Elizabeth Technical High (STETHS) at Llandilo Sports Complex.

Clarendon College and Frome Technical, both of whom have already secured their places in the next round, will meet at Glenmuir to decide the winners of Group 3, while Rusea’s High and York Castle will face off at the Colin Miller Sports Complex in Lucea.

Despite needing just a draw to advance, neither Glenmuir High nor Manning’s School, both unbeaten so far, can afford to relax as both Edwin Allen and STETHS, with nothing to lose, could throw caution to the wind and take the game to them.

Manning’s will be comfortable playing at Llandilo where they beat Edwin Allen High last weekend but the STETHS defence has been hard to break down this season and should present a tough task to the Manning’s offence which is expected to be led by Jhamaleek Porter.

Glenmuir High has put themselves in the conversation as contenders and will be expected to do enough today to get past the Ben Francis KO holders.

The Group 3 decider is expected to be close and with both teams already through to the next round, it could make for a free-flowing game.

Clarendon College has been the more prolific of the two but Frome Technical’s Stevaughn Spence and Akeem Kangol have proven they have the skills to break down defences.

Clarendon College’s offence is not dependent on one player as Kaheim Dixon, Christopher Hull, Malachi Douglas and Devonti Hodges, have all scored in important games throughout the season.
