Killaimij generates ‘buzz’ with new rhythm project
Three weeks after its release, the Buzzer Riddim compilation album reached number one on the US iTunes Reggae Chart. It is produced by Sheldon “Killaimij” Thaxter for his Killaimij Records.
That label, which is based in California, debuted in March last year with the 9Grainz ‘riddim’. One year later came the Buzzer which has 14 songs by artistes such as Lutan Fyah, Munga Honourable, Gaza Kim and Fantan Mojah.
According to Killaimij, a lot of toil went into the project.
“Hard work paying off by getting to showcase the quality work on the global stage,” he said. Despite being a newcomer, it was not difficult getting established acts to jump on the ‘riddim’.
“We selected a few and some other talented ones heard the beat and wanted to be a part of the project which is always a great look,” he told OBSERVER ONLINE.
Killaimij, who is in his early 30s, was born in Kingston but raised in Port Antonio, Portland where he attended Titchfield High School. Shortly after migrating to the United States, he enlisted in the military and served in the Marines.
Once out of the service, he gradually moved into music production which always fascinated him. Killaimij’s objective is to be as successful as two of his mentors.
“Officially, I’ve been (in the music business) for over one year now. I spent years to structure and develop to where we are now, because most people see the quality work and think we’ve been around since Dave and Tony Kelly time,” he said.
