Teen among five charged in St Thomas bike thefts

ST THOMAS, Jamaica – A 17-year-old is among five men charged by police following the theft of two motorbikes in Golden Grove, St Thomas recently.

The men were arrested after their getaway vehicle ran out of gas, and they were accosted by police and the stolen motorcycles found in their possession.

They are Stafford Beckford, 30, a construction worker from Harbour View in St Andrew; Rajae Bryant, 25, from Corn Piece; Rashaid Pinnock, 18, from Savana, Hayes; and Ricardo Gordon, 23, also from Corn Piece, all in Clarendon, and the 17-year-old boy.

They were charged on Friday with larceny of a motorcycle and receiving stolen property and taken before the St Thomas Parish Court, where they were remanded.

All five are to return to Court on December 9.

Police reports are that between 10:30 pm on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, and 6 am on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, a blue Zamco motorcycle valued at $200,000 was stolen from the home of a 50-year-old farmer in Hampton Court.

Within that same period, a black Zamco motorcycle, also valued at $200,000, was also stolen in Duckensfield from the home of a 39-year-old farmer.

The five accused were arrested later that Wednesday after the police accosted them in a 1998 Toyota Probox, which ran out of gas. The stolen motorcycles were found in the vehicle.

While the men were in custody, the owners of the stolen motorcycles turned up and identified them. Following further investigations, the men were charged.
