Thomas-Dodd finishes fifth in Diamond League shot put final
Jamaica’s Danniel Thomas-Dodd had to settle for a fifth-place finish in the final of women’s shot put at the Wanda Diamond League meeting in Zurich, Switzerland on Wednesday.
The 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games champion, Thomas-Dodd, who was Jamaica’s lone competitor in the final, produced a best mark of 19.04 metres in her sixth and final attempt.
Meanwhile, Chase Ealey of the United States won her first Diamond League trophy with a massive third-round throw of 20.19 metres. She also became the first American woman to win the shot put title at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon this year.
Sarah Mitton of Canada claimed the runner-up spot with a best throw of 19.56 metres, while Portugal’s Auriol Dongmo rounded out the top three in 19.46 metres.
