WATCH: Robbery foiled by taxi operators, off-duty police in St Andrew
Two armed robbery suspects are now in police custody after they were chased by cabbies following a hold-up at a taxi stand in Pembroke Hall, St Andrew Thursday morning.
OBSERVER ONLINE understands that three gunmen posing as passengers held up and robbed taxi operators and a chef at the taxi stand. It is reported that the armed men took cash and a child’s lunch bag, before they attempted to escape.
“One of them move towards me and say ‘weh di money deh, weh di money deh’ and me don’t pay him any mind, but the next one push off to me now and that’s when me realise that a serious thing. So me take up the pan with the money and give him and him say ‘weh di money deh, a nuh di money this’ so me say ‘a this me have, me don’t have anymore money’.. and him go in my pockets and search me and take out everything out of my four pockets,” one victim said.
The robbers also reportedly held a gun to a child’s face while they held up her mother, and also took the child’s lunch bag.
“A rob them a rob the girl and them put the gun in the baby face because the baby a make noise. Them take weh her lunch pan and tell the mother to tell the baby to stop the noise,” one person reported.
The armed men then stole a taxi in an attempt to escape, however other taxi operators gave chase. During the chase, the robbers crashed into an off-duty police officer’s vehicle in Queensbury, St Andrew. The armed men then exited the crashed Toyota Probox and tried to escape on foot but the officer reportedly fired several warning shots.
Two of the robbers were subsequently caught and a firearm recovered.
The police are currently in search of the third robber.
