BUDAPEST, Hungary – World 400m champion Antonio Watson is likely to be part of Jamaica’s team for the 4x400m final at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary on Sunday.

There have been rumours swirling about Watson’s fitness and availability, but team medical officer Dr Warren Blake, technical leader Maurice Wilson and the athlete’s agent Cubie Seegobin said they were unaware of any issues when contacted by OBSERVER ONLINE.

Dr Blake told OBSERVER ONLINE that Watson had not been to see him about any injuries while Seegobin said “I have heard the same rumours, but I am not aware of this.”

Wilson said he had “no knowledge.”

Watson, who lowered his personal bets to 44.13 seconds in the semi-final before winning the gold medal with 44.22 seconds, his two fastest times ever, is expected to be added to the men’s mile relay team that ran 2:59.82 to win their semi-final heat on Saturday.

National champion and World Championships 400m finalist Sean Bailey, who was also expected to be brought into the team for the final, has been withdrawn from the championships after suffering a hamstring injury, it was announced on Saturday.
