The beautiful Half Moon Beach is one of Hanover’s best-kept secrets, located between Green Island and Orange Bay. The private beach is where tranquility reigns and many wedding vows have been exchanged on the white sand beach.
The property houses seven small oceanfront cabins and is a regular spot for tourists. Half Moon Beach is a prime getaway for snorkelling, boat tours, nature walks and bamboo rafting.
It is the only place in Jamaica where bamboo rafting is done in the ocean. There is also a bar at a small island nearby and patrons can hire a boat to get there. The business has been operating for over 25 years and is co-owned by Andrew Marr and Tania Bauwens. Team foodie Hanover pulled up for lunch to discover the little secret that we have been hearing about.
The sign was visible and we turned off the main road on to a dirt track. Within two minutes we were at the entrance and it was evident that Mother Nature had carved out this little spot. Half Moon Beach also has a thatched restaurant on the property, serving fresh Jamaican dishes daily.
We were greeted by Tania and were seated promptly. She enthusiastically told us about the property and we went snapping away with our cameras while awaiting our orders.
The restaurant offers a menu that includes a variety of sandwiches, entrées, and the signature grilled lobster (when in season).
The service was prompt and we were delighted by the presentation when we received our orders:
• Conch soup
• Conch fritters
• Curried vegetables
• Green Island coconut chicken
We also ordered coconut water and our total bill was $4,500 for all three of us. The meal was quite tasty with the fresh pineapple infused with the chicken and vegetables dish.
The coconut water was served in a glass, but upon departure we were given the coconut in the husk.
