ANNOTTO BAY, St Mary — Unlike Tanto Blacks, Rygin King, and other winners of the Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall talent show who have gone on to become household names, O’Neil “Accid” Walker has been quiet since the hype of coming out on top in 2016.

Now with the wisdom earned over the last seven years, a new song, and the guidance of new management, he is ready to reclaim his place in the spotlight.

He intends on tapping into the healthy dose of self-motivation that made him a winner, back then, to propel him to the top once again.

“I was at a crossroads in my life where my back was against the wall — my babymother was two months’ pregnant and I am wondering how I would provide for them,” he said of the challenges he was facing in 2016.

“I went to my bed and heard a voice say, ‘Go to Magnum and make your son see you born a king,’ ” he told the Jamaica Observer, sharing that at the time he had no idea of the gender of his unborn child.

He listened to the “voice”, went to the Ocho Rios audition, and was successful. That was just the first step, but he had a plan.

“I had a vision from the start and I played it throughout to the end,” said Accid of his Magnum journey.

His song, One Thump Inna Yuh Eye, was a hit with the fans. The raft of prizes for winning included an opportunity to have the song and an accompanying music video professionally produced but, according to Accid, he was told the song was too violent for airplay. He was willing to do a cleaner version but that offer wasn’t taken up, he said, still disappointed after all these years.

He is grateful, though, for the exposure he got at major events such as Sumfest, Dream Weekend, Ochi Seafood Festival, and Magnum Live at Sabina Park. Today a more mature and confident Accid is convinced he is on the verge of a big breakthrough, guided by Chic Society Records.

“My focus and aim is to step in the spotlight and get back my fan base, which has been scattered,” he said.

One of the songs he is counting on to help him make waves is Donald Trump.

“It’s a catchy song that readily gets you dancing,” said Accid. A music video will also be released, he added.

The determined artiste is ready to see the vision he had so many years ago become reality.

“My son is now seven and the king that he saw when he was born will continue on his royal route with hit after hit,” Accid promised.
