Caribbean-American congresswoman welcomes order on artificial intelligence
WASHINGTON (CMC) — Caribbean-American Democratic Congresswoman Yvette D Clarke has welcomed President Joe Biden’s new Executive Order on Safe, Secure and Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence (AI).
“I commend the Administration for issuing this landmark Executive Order to ensure that America is a global leader in AI by prioritising innovation and competition while also emphasising new standards for equity and civil rights, and mitigating threats posed by misinformation and disinformation,” Clarke, the daughter of Jamaican immigrants, told the Caribbean Media Corporation (CMC).
“This comprehensive strategy not only represents a whole-of-government approach to promote the responsible development and governance of AI, but also lays the groundwork for Congress to act on legislation to provide the necessary resources and authorities,” added the representative for the 9th Congressional District in Brooklyn, New York.
“I am also pleased to see the Administration’s attention to advancing equity and civil rights, which coincides with my work on algorithmic discrimination — including my Bill, the Algorithmic Accountability Act,” said Clarke, first vice-chair of the Congressional Black Caucus.
