Golf View Hotel expanding into culinary events
MANDEVILLE, Manchester — Operators of the Manchester-based Golf View Hotel say they are investing in expanding into culinary events to attract more visitors to this south-central town.
Peter Campbell, managing director of Golf View Hotel in Mandeville, told the Jamaica Observer that the facility will be hosting a culinary experience, dubbed Genesis, today.
“The concept came out of the need to express ourselves from a culinary standpoint and by expressing ourselves by a means to show central Jamaica and the rest of the country what Golf View has to offer in terms of culinary options and how elevated we can go and our potential,” he said on Monday.
With Golf View being renowned for hosting events in central Jamaica, Campbell, who along with his wife Kemilee bought the property from the James family in 2019, said he wants Mandeville to be seen as competitive in the hotel sector.
“We are the premier leaders in terms of events and this is just another of the many that we plan to put forward in the years to come. We believe that as a country we are very diverse, culturally aware and we want to tap into all these different facets to again express and show people locally and abroad of our capabilities and don’t let Mandeville or central Jamaica come off as not being able to compete with the bigger hotels,” he said.
Genesis, which will be held in the Latitude Lodge of Golf View Hotel, will feature a unique four-course meal crafted by guest Chef Andre Sewell with each dish paired with wine by Harbour Wines & Spirits.
Campbell said the use of the name Genesis is to showcase the commencement of culinary events at Golf View.
“We want to show the various types of events that can happen instead of just the regular music, party and alcohol consumption. This event is a series that we want to have running every six months, so the name Genesis is just the birth of the first staging,” he explained, while adding he is expecting growth of the events.
“Chef Andre has a huge online following and he has been doing a lot of outside of the box preparation as it relates to food and that is exactly where we want to go. We want to pull more eyes and ears to the event, but in subsequent series we plan to go different routes, offerings, but with the same unique culinary style in mind,” said Campbell.
