Italian-Jamaican fusion at Sabores

Italian-Jamaican fusion at Sabores

Frank Peeters is no stranger to the restaurant industry. With Wingz and Tingz already under his belt as a crowd favourite in Montego Bay, his recently opened Italian-Jamaican restaurant Sabores promises to also be another winner.

Peeters, however, has widened his range at Sabores with Caribbean-inspired brick oven pizzas, gourmet pasta and traditional Italian specials from the chef.

While pointing out that Sabores is a Spanish word, which translates to flavours, Peeters told the Jamaica Observer’s LetsTravelCaribbean.com that the name represents what he and his team members are aiming for at this new establishment. Sabores was officially opened in June of 2023.

“We chose the name because we want to create different flavours that are a new fusion type of meals. Our concept is basically a traditional Italian kitchen that makes use of local ingredients and local flavours,” said Peeters.

Located in Greenwood, at the border of St James and Trelawny, Sabores sits on the white sands of Long Bay Beach. Peeters said that there are plans for the addition of a pier and gazebo in the water, but for now, visitors can enjoy their gourmet meals at the many outdoor seating arrangements offered.

Sabores also has an expansive menu curated to meet the needs of all who enter its gates. With jerk chicken pasta, oxtail pasta, oxtail pizza and an ackee and salt fish pizza on their menu, it is evident that Peeters is determined to maintain a “yardie” vibe.

Those wanting to sample Italian meals can choose between tasty bruschetta starters, montanara pizza with fresh mozzarella cheese and a traditional lasagne.

“What we have now is a really chill beach vibe, but not necessarily cheap. It is elegant and beachy with a very high-quality kitchen. Everything is made fresh to order,” said Peeters.

The menu prices are quoted in USD and meals can be enjoyed at reasonable prices.

During a visit to Sabores on its official opening night recently, LetsTravelCaribbean.com was impressed with the lighting and décor of the outdoor restaurant. Sabores sports a well-stocked bar with premium alcohol, plus bartenders are always on hand to make whatever specials your heart desires.

Opening night was elegantly carried out with a cocktail party which saw patrons being treated to tasty meals that can be found on the menu. From the bamboo backdrop, perfect for photo ops, to the thatch-styled dining areas, Sabores is a beauty to behold.

The creamy shrimp pasta and the Jamaican Lovers pizza were popular with patrons. The bruschetta with gorgonzola was also delicately done — another hit for the night!

The overall design of the property is perfect for a night out with friends or lovers, Peeters told LetsTravelCaribbean.com.

Bruschetta with gorgonzola served at the opening night of Sabores in Greenwood.

“You can expect a very chill vibe. Sabores is a place where you want to take your date because it is definitely a romantic space, especially at night. It is nicely lit, very chill, good service, good food and very relaxed,” he assured.

Opening hours: Tuesdays to Sundays | 3:00 pm – 11:00 pm
