Chapelton look to rebound in Tier-Two football
AFTER having their perfect win record snapped on Wednesday, Chapleton Maroons will be hoping to start another winning run when they host Portlanders FC today in the Jamaica Football Federation National Tier Two match at Turner’s Playfield in Chapleton, starting at 3:30 pm.
Chapleton Maroons were held 0-0 by Baptist Alliance on Wednesday, ending their winning run at five games, and slipped a spot down to second place in the table with 16 points, trailing Faulkland FC of St James on goal difference.
Both Faulkland FC and Chapleton Maroons appear set to qualify for the semi-finals of the Premier League qualifying competition, unless there is a serious reversal of form.
Today Faulkland FC will go after a sixth-straight win when they travel to Westmoreland Oval to face Albion Mountain, while third-place Treasure Beach FC face fifth-place Tru-Juice FC at Prison Oval.
Chapleton were held goalless for the first time this season by Baptist Alliance who had conceded five goals three days before against Faulkland. The Portlanders FC team has scored three wins and are in contention for a semi-final place.
Portlanders FC lost 2-3 at Faulkland, giving up a goal in time added, but are expected to give a good account of themselves against the Clarendon-based club that is expected to be led by Kaheim Dixon and Javel Ellis who have combined for 10 of the team’s 15 goals scored so far.
Faulkland FC will welcome back Ronaldo McLeish who sat out Wednesday’s win, but the St James-based club has had 11 players score at least one goal so far, nevertheless. Albion Mountain have only scored seven goals so far and have conceded nine.
The red-hot O’Brien Robinson has scored five of his 10 goals in Faulkland FC’s last two games and will be on the hunt for more today as they seek to stay on top of the table.
Treasure Beach FC appear semi-final bound but will run into a Tru-Juice club with similar ambitions. Tru-Juice have been inconsistent, however, and have not been able to put together a good run.
Treasure Beach FC are on 12 points and have a three-point advantage over Tru-Juice who are coming off a vital win over Downs YC on Wednesday.
Falmouth United have given themselves a lifeline with a big win over Hopewell United in a western derby on Wednesday — and another win today, over Downs YC, would significantly boost their semi-final hopes which, up to two rounds prior, were rather slim.
Falmouth United are into sixth place on seven points but are just three away from a top four spot. Today they will hope Leon Irving and Patrick Shecklude, who have combined for eight goals, come good at home against Downs YC who are a point behind.
Baptist Alliance will face a Lime Hall Academy team that is coming off its first win. Boths team will be eager to get all three points at Drax Hall while Hopewell United and Wadada United will meet at Orchard in Hopewell.
