JAMAICA’S national champion and World Championships silver medallist Shericka Jackson had to settle for second place in the women’s 100m at Friday’s opening Wanda Diamond League meeting in Doha, beaten by American Sha’Carrie Richardson.

Richardson, who stormed past Jackson in the final 20 metres, ran a world-lead and meeting record 10.76 seconds (0.9m/s), beating the previous world lead of 10.82 seconds set by the Jamaican three weeks ago in Kingston.

The time also erased the previous meet record 10.80 seconds set by the late Tori Bowie in 2016.

Jackson was second with 10.85 seconds and Great Britain’s Dina Asher Smith finished third with a season best 10.98 seconds.

Meanwhile, other Jamaicans competing in the meet were Olympic Games medallist Megan Tapper in the 100m hurdles and the pair of Candice McLeod and Stephenie Ann McPherson in the women’s 400m.

Tapper, who was fourth, ran a season’s best 12.76 seconds (1.1m/s) as Puerto Rico’s World Championships medallist Jasmine Camacho-Quinn won with personal record 12.48 seconds ahead of Americans Alaysha Johnson (12.66 seconds) and Nia Ali- (12.69 seconds).

McLeod was fifth in the quarter mile in 52.43 seconds and McPherson placed sixth in 52.93 seconds as Marileidy Paulino of the Dominican Republic won with 50.51 seconds, beating American Shamier Little who ran 50.84 seconds.
