Kool Kat outshines rivals in Capital’s tipsters competition

Ruddy Allen (Kool Kat), underlining why he is the competition’s leading tipster, easily emerged the overall champion in the 2022 Capital Betting and Wagering Limited/Jamaica Observer Tipsters’ Competition.

Allen came out as the champion for both sections of the competition — the Most Wins and Monetary categories. Allen, who was winning the Most Wins category for the third consecutive year and the Monetary category for the second time after being crowned the 2017 champion, was rewarded with prize money of $100,000 for both categories. Anthony Allen (Gujurat), who finished second in the Monetary category, received a $25,000 prize. The presentation ceremony was held at the 24/7 Escape Bar & Grill in New Kingston, on Wednesday, January 11, 2023.

Allen led for almost the entire way, displaying his excellent choice of selections to take the title with 311 wins, nine wins ahead of Bernadette Bishope (Miss Cookie), who ended with 302 wins. Anthony Allen, who was prominent throughout the race, finished in third place on 201, with Gerald Reid (Reidy) finishing in fourth place on 298 wins. The remaining tipsters were Sherdon Cowan (The General) with 283 wins; Leslie McLean (Hot Spur) 275 wins; Jason Duncan (Jah Son) on 269 wins); Donald Bahadur (Sir Donald) on 233 wins; and Kingsley Gentles (The Genius) 230 wins).

Meanwhile, in the monetary category, Allen placed just over $6,000 in bets, which yielded over $29,000 in the final quarter of the competition. Allen ended with $45,158, while Anthony made a successful bet on the final race day of last year to finish on $29,380. The other tipsters had exhausted their quotas.

For this year’s competition, Robert Bailey replaces Reid. Each tipster starts the year with a nominal amount of $20,000 to place their bets. They can bet a minimum of $250 per race day.

The competition offers a $20,000 quarterly prize to the tipster who accumulates the most money over $20,000. The tipster with the most wins at the end of the quarter also gets $20,000.
