Money Miser snatches it with brilliant stretch run
LEADING jockey Reyan Lewis guided Money Miser to a brilliant stretch run, securing victory in the United Racehorse Trainers Association Trophy over nine furlongs and 25 yards at Caymanas Park on Saturday.
Money Miser, owned and trained by Fitzroy Gilspie, went off at odds of 6-5 and was locked at the furlong pole with Super Alex but dismissed the rival to win the event by three lengths. Super Alex finished second while Power From Above claimed third.
Lewis, disclosing his strategy, said: “It was just to get a good break and a good position because I have schooled this horse from when he was a baby so I know what he is capable of and I also knew his running style, so it was quite easy for me out there.
“I know that this horse is also a fighter, and he won’t give up. Whenever any horse comes beside [him] he just keeps on fighting, so I just continue to ride him all the way to the line to victory,” Lewis added
The victory completed a triple for Lewis on the 10-race card as he had other wins on Muzzo in the fourth race and Justin Biden in the seventh event.
Reflecting on his overall performance, Lewis said: “I am feeling good about these three winners but I have to give thanks to the Lord, and the connections, and my agent who is always pushing me to do better at all times.”
In a noteworthy performance, jockey Jordan Barrett won two races at the track, with Wilson in the second race and My Smokey in the third event.
Barrett expressed delight with his wins, noting that it had been a while since he won two races at Caymanas Park.
“I am feeling pretty happy about these two winners because I have been working hard for this, and I am just very happy that I was able to win two races.”
