St Thomas five-a-side league to climax on New Year’s Eve
As a youngster, singer Stevie Face played football to keep fit and just for the fun of it. It has always been a sport that he had the utmost respect for.
This New Year’s Eve Stevie Face will throw his support behind the Iland Vybz Food Court five-a-side football competition in Albion, St Thomas.
Teams are competing for a share of $1,000,000 cash among other prizes courtesy of Iland Vybz Food Court and Jampet Service Station.
Speaking with the Jamaica Observer, Stevie Face, who is also the owner and operator of the Advanced Service Station in Albion, explained why he decided to get involved in the football competition.
“First of all, I am a big football fan and I also play football a lot,” said Stevie Face. I’ve been sponsoring and promoting various sporting activities in the community including football competitions and cricket competitions over the past 10 years.”
Teams from Morant Bay, Yallahs, Poor Man’s Corner and Heartease will participate in the football competition.
Stevie Face, who is a huge fan of the English Premier League (he is an Arsenal fan), said that the aim and objective of the football competition is to unite the community and to also give the youth something meaningful to do.
“We want to bring some unity to the community and to also bring the youths together and to give them something positive to do,” said Stevie Face.
“Since I opened my gas station in Albion in 2014 the people in the community and surrounding areas have shown me tremendous support. Therefore, I am always happy to give back to the community. As an entertainer, I know that music and sports are two of the strongest elements that can be used to foster unity and development in any community. This is why I decided to keep this free event for the people in the area,” he said.
Following the five-a-side football competition, there will be entertainment courtesy of recording artistes Sizzla, I-Octane, Delly Ranx, Trapycal and Nastic, among others.
“I want everyone to come out on New Year’s Eve Day and have a magnificent time. There will be lots of entertainment and excitement during the daytime with the finals of the five-a-side football league. In the night we’ll ring in the new year with our New Year’s Eve party which will feature performances from some of Jamaica’s best reggae and dancehall artistes,” said Stevie Face.
