A man who was shot dead by a licensed firearm holder during a shoot-out at Old England, Manchester on July 5, has been identified as one of the men who allegedly shot and killed Detective Corporal Erro Bell at the Honey Bun Bakery on East Street in Kingston on June 17, the police reported Wednesday.

The dead man has been identified as Conroy Ellis otherwise called “Yogie Bear”, formerly of Hitching Street and Grants Pen Road in Kingston.

The Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) had earlier reported that about 2:00 pm, on June 17, Detective Corporal Bell was transacting business at the Honey Bun Bakery when two men approached him. The men attempted to rob him and during a struggle he was shot in the head. The men then took the corporal’s licensed Taurus pistol, serial # TRF2489, and escaped in a white hatchback motor car, registered 9988 DE.

On Friday, July 5, the CCN’s Manchester liaison officer reported that at about 3:30 pm that day, three men aboard a blue Toyota Corolla motor car reportedly trailed a licensed firearm holder from a bank in Mandeville to the Marshall Pen area. When he alighted from his motor car, the gunmen reportedly opened fire, hitting him. He managed to return the fire and one of the gunmen fell.

The other two sped off in the car leaving their fallen colleague behind. A Bryco semi-automatic pistol with eight rounds was taken from the injured man, later identified as 30 year-old Ricardo Perkins of Grants Pen, Kingston 8. He was charged with illegal possession of firearm and ammunition and shooting with intent.

About 12:30 pm the following day, Ellis’ body was found on the Alpart mining road with gunshot wounds to the abdomen. He was later identified as one of the gunmen who had attacked the licensed firearm holder.

Following investigation by detectives from the CIB Headquarters in Kingston, it was revealed that Ellis was one of the gunmen who had shot and killed Corporal Bell, the CCN said.
