‘Syd’ Bartlett’s funeral pushed back

BAD weather in New York on Monday forced the postponement of the funeral service for former national footballer Sydney ‘Syd’ Bartlett.

Bartlett, who succumbed to kidney failure in the Intensive Care Unit of a New York hospital on Saturday, was rated as one of Jamaica’s top footballers ever. He was 70.

“The family had to postpone the funeral because of the weather, but we are trying to arrange it for Wednesday of next week,” a family member who didn’t want to be identified told the Observer from New York Tuesday.

“The service will also be shifted to New Jersey where one of his sons live,” the family member said.

Bartlett, who represented the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) during the late 1950s into the 1960s, lived in the United States for almost 45 years.

He was known for his unique style of dribbling with his index fingers airborne and kicked with deadly accuracy with either foot.
