Level II Coaching Course starts Feb 8
THE Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) Level II Coaching Course sponsored by Jamaica Money Market Brokers (JMMB) will commence on February 8 at the University of Technology (UTech).
The JFF has previously partnered with JMMB and UTech for the Advanced Level 1 Courses and are about to team up for the improved stage, Advanced Level 2, with the intention of improving football instruction, presentation and play in the country.
JFF president Capt Horace Burrell announced at a press conference yesterday at Cuddyz Sports Bar and Grill in New Kingston that if it were not for the sponsorship of JMMB, it would have been too expensive for the local coaches.
“This partnership shows that JMMB is serious about nation building. Last year, it cost a whopping $105,000 for each participant. However, based on the support we have received from the JMMB family, the cost for the participants is only a mere $35,000,” said Burrell.
“If these participants had gone overseas for these courses, the cost would have been a lot more. I can’t thank JMMB enough for staying the course in these very important periods,” he noted.
Clover Moore, JMMB’s marketing communications manager, said this move is an indication that things are moving in the right direction.
Said Moore: “We at JMMB believe in partnership and progress. Coaches have the power to create the right attitude and discipline among the youngsters.”
“There are a lack of role models, and by participating they put themselves in a position to do so,” said Moore.
Chairman of the JFF’s Technical Committee Howard McIntosh revealed that over 160 coaches graduated last year with Level I coaching certification and come September all Premier League coaches will have to be certified at Level II.
“Vision without action is just a dream; vision with action can change the world. Our job is to execute that vision,” said McIntosh philosophically.
“Too many persons can take up a whistle and say there are a coach. That’s no longer acceptable. Come this year, all Premier League coaches will have to be at… Level II.
“Parish league coaches at the Super League level will have to be at… Level I, and to the prep school and primary school coaches, they too will have to be at Advanced Level I,” McIntosh noted.
According to McIntosh, the JFF intends to have over 600 accredited coaches islandwide.
