FORMER National Under-20 coach and head coach of Sporting Central Academy, Donovan Duckie, is still recovering from a motor vehicle accident Sunday before last.

Duckie, who is currently wearing a neck brace, was travelling home to St Mary from Trelawny following his team’s 2-1 win over Village United, along with his 11-year-old son Andre, and former Black Star’s striker Lincoln Williams, when the accident happened.

“I am doing well, but in my neck there is a lot of pain. The feeling around the neck is sore and I had some soft tissue damage in my lower back,” Duckie told the Observer.

“I am looking forward to doing some extra x-ray because I am feeling some pain in my chest area. But for now I am trying to move around,” he explained.

According to Duckie, the accident involving his black Hatchback Honda Civic and a Honda Integra happened in the vicinity of the Beaches Boscobel Hotel in St Mary.

Duckie, who also coaches Clarendon College in the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) daCosta Cup, is hoping for a speedy assistance from the insurance company because a motor car is “very essential in my line of work”.

“I saw Bolt get back his within a week from his insurance (company) and I am hoping I have the same luck,” said Duckie laughing.

But though eager to get back to work immediately, especially after seeing Clarendon College eliminated from the Ben Francis Knockout last Saturday, then on Sunday saw Sporting Central Academy lose to Reno, it will not be physically possible.

“Maybe the next game I’ll be around,” he said jokingly. “I want to be there for my team psychologically, but physically it’s not possible.

“But I want to be there to design the training drills and supervise the staff. I won’t be able to move around with the energy that I usually bring to the field, but my presence is important,” he noted.

Nevertheless, Duckie said he was just happy to be alive after surviving a frightening accident.
