Waterhouse keep nose ahead in DPL
Waterhouse maintained their perfect home record in the Digicel Premier League with a 3-1 win over cellar-dweller St George’s SC at Drewsland on Sunday to remain atop the standings with 19 points, one more than second-placed Tivoli Gardens on 18.
Vincent Earl gave Waterhouse their fourth home win from as many matches when vacating his midfield position on three separate occasions to register his first hat-trick for the season.
St George’s, who were losing for the seventh time of the season, are now firmly rooted at the bottom of the standings on four points which were garnered from one win and a draw at home.
Playing a roving, probing game, Earl opened the scoring in the 22nd minute of play from a flicked on header by Andre Clennon. Two minutes after the resumption the crafty central midfielder put his team farther ahead when he again nudged past goalkeeper Ralston Robinson an Andre Clennon’s centre from an angled right side position.
Earl then sealed the issue in the 65th minute from the penalty spot after the industrious Akeem Thenstead was brought down in the area.
Late change Leon Irving scored three minutes after coming on in the 79th to pull a goal back for the visitors.
The final score for Waterhouse was modest to say the least when compared to the number of missed chances by bungling strikers who were less than six yards away from the target at times.
