Former Prime Minister Edward Seaga last week launched the second volume of his well-received autobiography at Books and Books in Coral Gables, South Florida.

‘My Life and Leadership – Volume 2: Hard Road to Travel 1980 – 2008 2, is a follow-up to ‘My Life and Leadership. Volume 1: Clash of Ideologies 1930-1980’, which was released in January of this year.

The 396-page publication, which includes photographs, gives an insight into the emergence of modern Jamaica, including economic and social challenges, while hailing the triumphs.

In a brief address to an audience of Jamaican nationals and friends of the Diaspora, Seaga said the second publication, like the first, chronicles his political career that spans some 45 years, and highlights significant periods of Jamaica’s development.

He indicated that both volumes took nearly four years to prepare, including research, and reflected on his years of public service.

He acknowledged the many agencies that contributed to the publications, noting that aim was to record the pages of Jamaica’s history for the youth, and future generations.

In paying tribute to nationals in the Diaspora, Seaga said they continue to demonstrate their role as ambassadors of a great nation “still taking the interest of Jamaica in your hearts.”

In her welcome address, Jamaica’s Consul General, Sandra Grant Griffiths, acknowledged the former Prime Minister for his long and outstanding years of public service. Former United States Ambassador to Jamaica Sue Cobb echoed the sentiments of Seaga’s contribution to national development.

Seaga presented signed copies of the publication to the Consul General and Ambassador Cobb, and after a brief question and answer segment, signed copies for the many book enthusiasts in line to greet him.

Seaga served as Jamaica’s fifth Prime Minister from 1980 to 1989, and enjoyed an extensive career in public service.

Since his retirement in January 2005, Seaga has pursued research as a Distinguished Fellow at the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona, and is Pro-Chancellor of the University of Technology (UTech).

Seaga also continued his book launch and signing at a reception at the Consulate General of Jamaica in New York on Friday (Dec. 3). He was accompanied on his book tour by Chief Executive Office of Nostalgia In Gold – We Care, Vonnie McGowan Arscott.

Proceeds from the sale of the book will benefit victims of child abuse, and women in distress in Jamaica.
