Andrew Lawrence for Classical Harmony, December 19

COME Sunday, December 19, patrons attending Classical Harmony set for the grounds of the Immaculate Conception High School, will be able to once more, savour the melodious voice of Andrew Lawrence as he offers his talent for the charitable works of the Franciscan Ministries.

Also taking centre stage will be a host of other talented acts, such as: accomplished pianist Yekengale; the 70-strong Immaculate Conception High School (ICHS) Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Steven Woodham; the ICHS Glee Club; soprano Jodi Ho Lung; a solo performance by violinist Kathryn Hoo, and special guest from Cayman, the Youth Wind Ensemble.

What many great singers had to learn through gruelling hours of practice and tutoring, came natural to Lawrence, as at an early age, he had the ability to harmonise. His powerful tenor voice made him an essential staple in many groups and by the age of 11 years, he was a member of the Ardenne High School Choir, under the direction of internationally acclaimed bass-baritone, Dr Curtis Watson. Recognising Andrew’s gift and potential, Watson entered him in the National Festival of the Arts, with a classical solo by Handel, which earned him a bronze medal.

The work of the Franciscan Ministries, serves marginalised persons and promotes justice and peace in communities in both rural and the inner-city communities of Kingston. The Ministries also accommodate voluntary medical practitioners from internationally recognised medical schools, such as Yale and Harvard Schools of Medicine in the USA. The teams provide free medications, as well as surgical and paediatric services. The organisation also operates a farm in Braes River in St Elizabeth, which they hope will be certified as organic in the near future.
