Bathing Beauty
YOUNG LIZ… This early photo of the late film icon Elizabeth Taylor showing her poolside at an unnamed location, was taken sometime between 1952-1954. She had just married her second husband, British film star Michael Wilding and, it has been suggested, was taken around the time the couple became frequent visitors to Jamaica. The photo was originally owned by Howard Nicholson, an employee of AGA (American Gas Association) who advertised gas appliances and used different actors/actresses to promote them. Nicholson reportedly said to his wife that “Taylor was stunningly beautiful and had very kind, perfect(ly) colour(ed) eyes, skin and, Oh my…!” This photo was bequeathed to Astley and Rachel Brown of Palm Springs, California by Nicholson’s widow several years later and offered for the Observer to use in its publications after her death last week.
