WATCH: Morgan reaffirms education ministry zero-tolerance on school violence after Seaforth High student dies
ST THOMAS, Jamaica — Parliamentary secretary in the Ministry of Education, Senator Marlon Morgan has reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on school violence following Monday’s fatal stabbing of a Seaforth High School student, as officials moved to support the grieving school community.
The student, identified as Kland Doyle, died after a dispute escalated into a stabbing incident near the Morant Bay Transport Centre on Monday afternoon.
Police have since taken three suspects into custody, including one believed to be directly responsible.
Morgan visited the school in the wake of the incident and expressed deep sorrow over the killing.

“As every Jamaican can appreciate, we are extremely saddened by the passing of young Doyle,” Morgan said, while extending condolences to the student’s family, friends and the wider school community.
He highlighted the devastating impact of such incidents on families, noting that no parent should have to send a child to school and not see them return home.
Morgan reaffirmed the Government’s firm position against violence and bullying, stressing that schools must remain safe environments for learning.
“As a government, we have a zero-tolerance approach to violence and bullism. We discourage maladaptive and antisocial behaviour and want our schools to remain safe spaces,” he said.
He also raised concern about what he described as an increasing frequency of violent incidents among young people, urging students to resolve conflicts through appropriate channels.
In response, the ministry has deployed a support team to Seaforth High School, including safety and counselling personnel, to assist students and staff in coping with the tragedy.
Morgan said the ministry stands in solidarity with the affected family and school community, calling on Jamaicans to offer support during this difficult time.
Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
