ST JAMES, Jamaica — Chairman of the Jamaica Police Federation, Sergeant Raymond Wilson is calling for the government to designate an area at the National Heroes Park to place a monument in memory of fallen policemen and women.

The request was made of National Security Minister, Robert Montague who was in attendance at the opening ceremony of the Jamaica Police Federation 74th Annual Joint Central Conferences. The two-day conference is being held at the Iberostar Hotel and Resort in St James.

Wilson, during his address, pointed out that while the area may not be possible for burial, there should be an appropriate place for a monument to be placed in memory of, “our true heroes of this country, our true heroines of this country, our rank and file members.”

The police sergeant is also calling on the government to designate a day of mourning for policemen and women who have fallen in the line of duty.

“It is the least you can do for police officers. A day of mourning, minister. But, we see all Jamaicans acknowledging and paying respect to our fallen colleagues,” stated Wilson.

He said this is done for certain category of persons in society and similar should be done for the police.
