24-y-o teacher Miss Portland Festival Queen 2017

Portland, Jamaica – Twenty-four-year-old teacher at Titchfield High School Velecia Robinson was adjudged Miss Portland Festival Queen 2017 at the Port Antonio High School Saturday evening.

Robinson topped four other contestants and on her was to copping the coveted trophy took three sectional prizes — Most Poised, Most Culturally Aware and Most active in the Community. The other sectional awards went to April Sherewood for Most Congenial and Tamieka Berry, Best Performance.”I am very much elated been crowned Miss Portland Festival Queen 2017 and I will do the parish well. I’m a well rounded person and plan to sell Portland to the rest of Jamaica. I worked hard and I was surprised that I won three sectional prizes and I’m overwhelmed,” Robinson said.She plans to do well at the national coronation and looks forward to doing her community project.”The project I plan, is to work in my community that is Boundbrook, merging all the communities, getting the young people off the streets using the performing arts, and doing a homework programme. I will use my teaching skills with music in teaching mathematics in ensuring that they become good learners,” she said.Everard Owen
