Diaspora organisation meets to discuss growth, development in Jamaica
ST JAMES, Jamaica — The National Association of Jamaican and Supportive Organisations (NAJASO) will meet next week to discuss how they can assist Jamaica in its efforts to sustain growth and development.
NAJASO said in a release today that it the meeting, which also marks the organisation’s 40th anniversary celebrations, will run from next Thursday to Saturday in Montego Bay under the theme Building Capacity to Sustain Growth and Development.
Acting Custos of St James Claudette Bryan, deputising for Governor General Patrick Allen, will be opening the convention.
Delegates such as Mayor of Montego Bay Homer Davis, Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett and Jamaica’s Ambassador to the United States, Audrey Marks will also be addressing the ceremony.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Andrew Holness will be the keynote speaker at its closing banquet on Saturday, and Opposition Leader Peter Phillips will be special guest speaker at the luncheon on Friday.
Convention Director Carol Williams said some eighty Jamaicans representing NAJASO member organizations from California to New York, Illinois to Florida, and Bermuda are expected to attend this year’s Convention.
Other government ministers such as Tourism Minister Ed Bartlett, Health Minister Christopher Tufton and State Minister for Education, Youth and Information Floyd Green as well as Ambassador Audrey Marks are expected to address various seminars.
The weekend convention will have workshops on immigration, crime and security, and health, tourism and youth empowerment, which are open to non-NAJASO members.
