RPD, Crime Stop sign MOU for training, information

KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Revenue Protection Division (RPD) recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Crime Stop Jamaica to collaborate on areas of training and information sharing.

RPD Commissioner, Major Johanna Lewin, stated that the alliance formed with Crime Stop creates another secure channel through which people can feel comfortable in anonymously reporting allegations of corruption, bribery, fraud or acts of malfeasance or misfeasance which affect the revenue.

“We are delighted to have this new partnership and look forward to the benefits which we are positive will accrue,” she said.

The MOU was signed on June 27.

Crime Stop Jamaica is a partnership between the community, the police and the media, which provides a platform through which the public may anonymously give information regarding the occurrence of crime using a toll free hotline (311) and online at www.crimestopjamaica.com.

The RPD, under the Revenue Administration Act, has the mandate to minimise corruption within the revenue services, in particular Tax Administration Jamaica and the Jamaica Customs Agency; minimise other frauds against the revenue services; improve the efficiency of revenue collection and generally, protect the Government’s revenue.
