First come, first seated, says JUTC
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Jamaica Urban Transit Company Limited (JUTC) is reminding the commuting public that seating on all its buses is allocated on a first come, first served basis and should not be reserved for individuals who are not already on board.
The State-run bus company in a statement Wednesday, said the reminder follows reports of some commuters occupying or holding seats for family members, friends, or acquaintances while other passengers are left standing despite available seating.
“JUTC is appealing to all customers to be considerate of their fellow commuters and to help maintain a fair, respectful, and orderly travelling environment for everyone,” said Corporate Communications Manager at the JUTC, Shantole Thompson.
She emphasised that the company’s public transportation system is built on the principles of fairness and equal access for all commuters.
“JUTC exists to serve the public, and every passenger deserves an equal opportunity to access available seating. Reserving seats for persons who are not yet on the bus not only inconveniences other commuters but also undermines the spirit of courtesy and fairness that should guide the use of public transportation,” said Thompson.
“We are asking all our customers to work with us in fostering a more considerate and enjoyable travel experience for everyone,” she added.
The communications manager said the company is encouraging commuters to cooperate with bus crews, who may ask that unattended or reserved seats be made available to waiting passengers.
“This measure is intended to maximise passenger comfort and ensure the efficient use of available seating capacity across the network,” she said.
