Tonal takes Sephora!

Tonal takes Sephora!

“Would you want to see @tonalcosmetics in Sephora? Putting the finishing touches on my @sephora Accelerate application and manifesting real hard.”

This was Tonal Cosmetics founder Christal Alert’s Instagram post on September 22, 2024, an accompaniment to a reel of the cosmetic scientist at the Sephora SoHo, New York location, asking random customers and sales associates for their feedback on her freshly rebranded products while envisioning how good Sunveil would look on shelves.

Two months later, a call from Sephora re: A meeting in an hour. And a few weeks later, the announcement! Tonal Cosmetics, as well as seven other BIPOC (black, indigenous, and people of colour) brands — 4 AM, OliviaUmma, Bounce Curl, The Potion Studio, Influxious, Ruhvedam, and The Steam Bar — were named Sephora’s Accelerate Incubator Programme 2025 Class of Brand Founders. The announcement, which came on December 12, 2024, celebrated a decade of impact of the Sephora North America programme, a signature incubator designed to nurture and propel emerging beauty brands. All 2025 Accelerate participants applied to the programme in fall 2024. Eligible applicants were required to be at least 18 years old, have a North American-incorporated company, and be in the early stages of development

The Barbados and Guyana-raised beauty entrepreneur is still reeling from her experience at the recent Sephora Brand Summit, held February 25-26 at The Ritz Carlton, San Francisco. The groundbreaking event provides a space for BIPOC founders to learn, connect, and access valuable resources to fuel their entrepreneurial journeys. It saw the Sephora Accelerate cohort, alumni, and programme advisors building, supporting, and championing the brands within the retailer’s network.

Also at the summit was Dr Rose Ingleton, a Jamaican-born, board-certified dermatologist and founder of the clinical skincare line Dr Rose Ingleton MD. Ingleton’s line of serums, cleansers, and moisturisers is sold at Sephora stores and sephora.com.
